The Optical Shop in the lobby has an impressive array of spectacle frames and contact lenses including cosmetic contact lenses for the fashion conscious.

Accurate Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) Power Calculation
Accurate IOL power calculation is crucial for a satisfactory visual outcome following cataract surgery. We have ensured this by installing an advanced A scan biometer (Echorule 2, Biomedix) and along with the keratometer, these enable rapid and precise axial length and corneal curvature measurements.

The ZEISS slit lamp biomicroscope has superb optics and excellent illumination enabling a flawless ocular examination. The CP-690 Magnon Chart Projector with computer technology provides superior projection accuracy and coupled with the hand held (portable) Nidek (Nidek AR-20) autofractometer, ensures impeccable refraction.

Operation Theatre
Our world-class operation theatre in a secluded wing of the hospital, is equipped with the ZEISS operating microscope whose excellent optics and illumination provide marvelous image quality and depth perception which are crucial for the delicate steps of eye surgery.

As a part of our endeavor to keep the risk of infection to the least, we installed an ultrasonic cleaner and a high -- speed auto-sterilizer with 3-time pre-vacuum and one time after vacuum cycles to ensure the highest standards of sterilization. In addition , all the material used during surgery (starting from surgical drapes to intraocular lenses) is of the highest standard , keeping patient safety as the primary concern.

Phacoemulsification is currently the most advanced technique for cataract surgery worldwide. Our Prot-- g-- machine (Bausch and Lomb) with Venturi system ensures excellent results. We maintain the highest standards of sterilization to minimise the risk of infection and use the best materials during surgery since patient safety is of prime concern.

apollo victor medical hospital CARDIOVASCULAR SURGERY:

Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG) on beating Heart is a regular feature at the Apollo Victor Hospital. Valve replacements, Surgeries for congenital heart diseases and Peripheral Vascular Surgeries. A dedicated team of Anaesthetists, Cardiac Surgeons and Intensivist comprise the Cardiac Surgery Unit. Sarns CPB Pump, Datascope IABP Machine, Siemens Ventilators and various Syringe Pumps are the support equipment for advance Cardiac Surgeries. These equipment can support the treatment of adults and children undergoing open-heart operations.

-- Digital Electrocardiogram (ECG)
This instrument measures the electric wave patterns of the heart and is an important primary diagnostic step to check for a suspected heart abnormality.

Echocardiography uses the ultrasound technique to visualize the chambers, valves and walls of the heart. Echocardiography can detect muscle weakness from a prior heart attack or motion abnormalities. Conventional and Colour Doppler uses the doppler effect for assessing the flow of blood across various chambers of the heart. This equipment has an additional software package for tissue doppler imaging in order to quantify wall motion abnormalities.

-- Stress Test or Treadmill Test (TMT)
Computerised Stress Test or Treadmill test is done to see how heart functions while exercising on a treadmill. Monitoring of patient-- s heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ECG and are monitored and recorded during the stress test. The stress test gives a rough estimate of the blood flow in the coronary arteries. This is a baseline test to assess the possibilities of blockages in the coronary arteries.

-- Stress Echo
The patient is made to lie comfortably and echocardiography is done. Through the infusion of medication, the heart is caused to react as if the patient is exercising. Once the targeted heart rate is achieved, simultaneous viewing of the heart image is done by echocardiography for any changes and indirectly assess the possibility of block in blood vessels of the heart.

State-of-the-art Siemens Catheterization Laboratory is a suite to perform Coronary Angiography, Peripheral Angiography, Angioplasties, Pacemaker Implantations and Electrophysiological studies. Digital Subtraction Angiography is important to accurately assess the blood supply to various organs of the body except the heart. Angioplasties are regularly performed for blocks in the blood vessels of the heart, brain, kidney and the limbs. This is the only facility for the entire state of Goa.

apollo victor knee hospital Orthopedic Treatment and Surgery

The following are the treatments currently being offered by the Orthopaedic Department of the Apollo Victor Hospital - Margao, Goa.

Total Knee Replacement
The only surgical procedure which gives good results from constant pain, deformities in advanced osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis of the knee.
Procedure details: - Overnight fasting
- Regional Anaesthesia used
- No Anaesthesia complications
- Hospital Stay - 10 days maximum

The patient may remain awake throughout the procedure. Apart from this the same anesthesia can be confirmed after operation in the form of analgesic (pain relief) for 72 hrs. The patient is mobilised from the second day of surgery. Stitches are removed on the 14th day. The prosthesis lasts for 15-20 years and newer designs have a longer life.

Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement Surgery (MIS)
The MIS Knee Replacement is a step ahead in joint replacement surgery. It involves a skin incision which measures 12 cms. lengthwise, minimally soft tissue dissection. This results in a more stable knee post-operatively as dissection of the soft tissue and muscles are reduced.

The procedure is done with a high flexed knee (upto 1510) and the instrumentation is specially designed to fit this small sized incision.
Procedure details: - Small incision, Less dissection, Less trauma
- More stable knee, Full flexion knee
- Faster recovery, Less Pain, 4 - 5 days hospital stay

Total Hip Replacement
In severe disabling conditions, like Ankylosing Spondylitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Avascular Necrosis of head, neglected neck fractures of femur in old patients, a total hip replacement can give a patient a chance at having a normal life. Total Hip Replacement is a field of orthopaedics where new technology and constant innovation has led to newer procedures, from metal-on-plastic prosthesis to ceramic-on-ceramic prosthesis (which lasts a minimum of 25 years) to metal-on-metal prosthesis and recently the Birmingham Hip Replacement Procedure. (Surface re-planing method)

With all this advancement, a deteriorated hip can be made almost normal.
Procedure details: - 2-3 hours Operation
- Efficient operative/post-operative pain management
- Patient back on feet by 4th day post-operation

The patient is mobilized on the 2nd day of surgery and can be back to their routine activities within a month. His physical activities may involve swimming, playing tennis, jogging, etc.

Minimally Invasive Fracture Management
The Orthopaedics department practices Minimal Access Surgeries (MAS/MIS) which involves minimal invasion of soft tissue cover of the bone and rigid fracture stability.

Procedure details: - Early post-operative mobility
- Minimal morbidity and pain
- Short hospital stay, Early return to work

Hand Injuries
Hand injuries & fractures are the most common cases to cause some stiffness and hence disability. Such incidents interfere in our day-to-day life especially where hand skills are a part of your job requirement.

To treat this poor performance, early stabilization of fractures, minimal soft tissue trauma, minimal splinter of hand post operatively and early physiotherapy are recommended. This reduces the stiffness of the fingers to a great extent and leads to better functioning of the hand improved performance.

Keyhole Surgery (Arthroscopy)
The department has the world's best arthroscope - Karl-Storz; with various diagnostic and therapeutic attachments. With these diagnostic arthroscopies, joint lavage, ACL reconstructed, Meniscal injuries; recurrent shoulder dislocation, ligament injuries and other sports injuries can be treated with a small key-hole size incision. The patient returns back to his routine on the next day of surgery which is painless. The key-hole reduces the chances of infection hence antibiotics are required only for 2 days following emergency. Internal scarring is minimal, giving a better range of motion much earlier than usual.

Arthritis Check-up Package
This affordable Arthritis Check-up package gives complete evaluation of all joints, with X-rays and blood investigations. This check-up is for anyone over 40 years of age.
