Hair Transplantation is an operation in which the hair from the back side of your head is transplanted into the empty scalp where there is density of hair growth. In more detail, this technique is to take out hair follicles one-by-one from any part of the body which maintains hair growth, into the area which is in need of hair growth. This is mainly used for restoring hair into the head scalp, but can also be utilized for other parts, including chest hair, eyebrows etc. By choosing the old method, you won't be able to regain a healthy and thick hair, but a contemporary technique called Follicular Unit Transplantation can do so. It helps to regain your flourishing hair back in an unrefined and safer way.

Difference between Strip Harvesting & Follicular Unit Extraction:

This generation has come so far that all the treatments comes with various options that can best suit the patient. The donating hair area of the patient can be gathered in two different ways which are, Strip Harvesting and Follicular Unit Extraction. Let us know the difference between these two techniques:

1. Strip Harvesting:

This technique is the most common among the others and is considered as hair transplantation's frequent process. The procedure is commenced by injecting the patient with anesthesia and then the doctor makes a cut in the donor site to detach the slim strip of the skin which carries the follicular units. Minutes later when the skin is successfully detached from the head, it is kept on a plate and stored at 20 to 26 degree celsius.

The doctor then begins to pull out every single follicular units from the desired donor site to place them into the empty scalp. This process of taking out follicular units is carried out very carefully by the help of stereoscopic, an optical microscope to zoom in the area. This helps to easily take out the fibre-rich tissues and elude complications to the area.

The doctor then wields a small blade to pierce the sites in order to place inside the follicles very gently. They make sure the follicles is placed in a way that it looks pleasant and natural to see.

2. Follicular Unit Extraction:

Follicular Unit Extraction is almost the same as Strip Harvesting, but with slight differences. This method gets under way by making a small circle shaped cut in the desired skin area to separate it from the tissue which surrounds it. This process can be a bit painful, but not more than how it was few years back. The extraction procedure is continued by tugging the units precisely from the scalp. Once these steps are completed, the scalp is left with tiny hollows.

This operation is recurred until the discussed hair portion is restored into the empty scalp. The time frame to successfully complete the procedure is not fixed. It may take 3 hours or even 3 days, as it depends upon the surgeon's speed and skills. The patient can be discharged within the time frame and the scars will more likely go away within a week or two.

The transplanted hair starts to grow and continues till lifetime. However, it takes 2 to 3 months for the hair roots to develop new hair and a maximum of 7 to 9 months is required to witness the best results. In order to be in the safer side, it is recommended to choose the most experienced and skilled surgeon to begin the procedure.
